Proposition 8

I make it a firm policy to very rarely openly state my political opinions. I think politics can get touchy sometimes and I would honestly rather just stay out of the debate and make my choice thoughtfully and quietly. There is one issue that will be on the ballot this year that I feel very passionately about, and that is proposition 8. It is the proposition that will be on the ballot in California that will add to the state constitution that marriage is to only be between a man and a woman, thereby making homosexual marriage illegal and invalid. I am completely in support of this proposition and since I have some wonderful ties to the great state of California, I thought it important to express my support of this proposition. As a family studies graduate and as a very religious person, there are many reasons that I have decided to support proposition eight. There is, however, a very simple video put together that states very well many of my feelings regarding proposition eight:

I am a religious person and believe strongly that we are all children of a loving Father in Heaven who knows us and loves us individually. He knows our unique circumstances and struggles. I know our Heavenly Father loves my gay and lesbian brothers and sisters just as much as he loves me. This issue is not one that gives anyone right to discriminate or hurt those who are homosexual. I have had many people in my life who are homosexual and who are amazing, loving, wonderful people. I cherish my relationships with them. I hope that by openly expressing my opinion in these matters I do not offend anyone. There are very few times when I choose to raise my voice over such a controversial issue; but when it comes to the family I find it to be essential.

I support Proposition 8.
