Chelsea Elizabeth

She's here! My beautiful little girl was born on June 12th. The night before I was having some contractions, but they weren't consistent and I really wasn't convinced it was labor. At midnight I decided to try and sleep them off. At about 4:30 I woke up and my water broke! We made our way to the hospital. My contractions were five minutes apart by then, but when we got to the hospital we found that I was still only dialated to a centimeter and a half, which is what it was at my doctor's appointment the week before. They put me on pitocin to try and get the contractions to do something for me, and boy did they ever. My contractions went to about a minute apart really quick. That's when I got my epidural. I wasn't sure if I was going to get one or not, but I'm so glad I did. Poor Chelsea wasn't handling the stress of the pitocin well so they turned it off, but that made my contractions go to six minutes apart. Because my body wasn't progressing and because Chelsea's heart wasn't handling labor so well, they talked about doing a c-section until they discovered I was 5 cm dialated so they decided to hold off. Laboring on my own I got to a ten pretty quickly and started pushing. The whole experience seems really surreal to me. After an hour, Chelsea came into the world. She wasn't doing very well - she wasn't breathing and her heartbeat was at 50 bpm. They worked on her for a while and finally, after a minute or two, she started breathing. They took her immediately to the nursery and Matt went with her. It was a scary go of things, but she's doing just great now. She was 6 lbs 8 oz and 19 inches long. She's so beautiful. I really can't believe this whole experience. I would do it 20 times over again just to have her. She's amazing. This experience has brought me so much closer to my Father in Heaven and to my husband. I am so grateful for the gospel of Jesus Christ that teaches us that we can have a family not just in this life, but for eternity, and I am so grateful for an amazing husband to share this family with. There are so many changes going on right now, but all remind me of the great gifts I have been given.
