The first attempt was made with just Chelsea. She and Grammy were out shopping when Grammy saw that Santa was there. She tried to take Chelsea to see him and before it was even her turn the girl wanted to high tail it out of there. She was not having anything to do with the bearded stranger, no matter what Grammy said. My mom told me about this and I have to admit, I was a little worried.
Our second attempt was with Chelsea and Lucy. Maple Valley food bank was hosting free professional pictures with Santa if you brought a food donation. We got our girls all gussied up in their Christmas dresses and headed out. Once we got there I talked to Chelsea about Santa; how cool he was, how he loved giving people candy, I even took her out of the line to show her Santa and show her how much all the other kids loved sitting on his lap. She looked a little nervous, but seemed like she would be okay. Then it happened. It was our turn in line. Chelsea had a major meltdown and did not want to sit with Santa. We have one picture with me holding Chelsea behind Santa while he is holding Lucy, one picture with just Lucy, and one picture with Chelsea's friend Hannah on Santa's lap and Chelsea sitting on dad's lap by Santa.
(Mom help! Are these pictures on your computer? For some reason I can't find them ANYWHERE on my hard drive!!)
Then we found the REAL incentive to sit on Santa's lap. Forget candy. Chelsea goes big or goes home. Grumpa's work was hosting a Christmas party with none else but jolly old St. Nick. Santa found out a present that the kids would like prior to him coming and had all the presents wrapped and waiting for them. At first it looked like Chelsea was going to run away again, but then she saw it...a present in Santa's hand waiting just for her. And here is the result -
